Day 3 - 7/3 - Grand 'ole Flag!

So one of the questions that they were supposed to ask me yesterday on the show was, "what was something that really surprised you?" They did not get to ask it but my answer was all ready. I was surprised to see that many American flags are not made here! We can't even make our own flags??  This is insane. I purchased a brand new flag for my house last year and I made sure it was made in America. When I was searching, many American flags are made in China. If an American Flag is made here, you will see it in big letters "Made in America". If you don't see those words, it's not and move on. There is a great company Valley Forge Flags that makes sure that every step of the way their flags are American. You can buy this brand locally at Michaels and Kohls. From their website http://www.valleyforgeflag.com/36/100-made-in-the-usa.htm

100% Made in the U.S.A.

100% Made in the U.S.A.It is Valley Forge Flag’s philosophy and practice that U.S. flags are made entirely of domestic materials and that each process in manufacturing the flag is accomplished in U.S. facilities with U.S. labor.
Valley Forge is proud to join other American manufacturers as a founding member of the Flag Manufacturers’ Association of America (FMAA). This association is committed to educating consumers, the press, and flag retailers about the United States manufactured flag industry and its significance to community, economic and social development. Educating the country and helping to enforce the legal requirements for the clear labeling of imported products is an important role that Valley Forge Flag takes very seriously.
To that end, member manufacturers have established the FMAA Certification. This seal is the public’s assurance that the flag being purchased and displayed is 100% Made in the U.S.A. from weaving the material to finishing the flag.
Although several countries export flags to the U.S., research indicates that the vast majority of the American public prefers U.S. flags to be made in the U.S.A. Valley Forge and the FMAA encourage customers to look for and ask for FMAA certified products and for retailers everywhere to support these efforts by only offering flags Certified Made in the U.S.A. for sale.

Please try to fly a flag tomorrow to celebrate our country's birthday! If you don't have one please, please, please make sure it is Made in America.

I saw this today in one of my favorite stores. I love the Christmas Tree Store. I avoided it for years because I thought it only sold Christmas stuff and I have so much already. Once I went in, well let's just say my bank account has suffered. It has everything!!  They do have Made in America items, but a lot of items are Made in China. I have tried to curb my spending there. Tried. I received this email today and it made me smile, they are trying, I guess we could call this baby steps.

Today only! Handheld flags 2 for $1 and they are Made in the USA! You go Christmas Tree Shop, I really appreciate you selling flags made here.

Enjoy tomorrow, BBQ, picnic, have fun, but don't forget to say
Happy Birthday America!!
