Day 14 - 7/14 - New Balance

So if you followed me last year you know that I had the hardest time last year finding something for my husband for our anniversary. I ended up getting him the shirt below, that he promptly returned due to its ugliness. But it was the only shirt in the store Made in America!
This year, I forgot again and today I tried to shop again for our anniversary. No luck what-so-ever. I ended up with a body spray that I think he may have already. There wasn't a shirt, jacket or shorts to be had. I went to browse the shoe section (I was having withdrawal) and I saw New Balance sneakers.

I suddenly flashed back and heard my dad's voice in my head talking to my mom saying "get me New Balance, they are made here!" New Balance sneakers are Made in the USA, that is awesome! OK, does my husband need sneakers, no, is he getting them - yes! But as luck would have it, they did not have his size. No I have to run around tomorrow and try to find New Balance in size 12. If not, he is getting what he got last year, a gift card!

I looked into New Balance when I got home. Some of the flip flops and other shoes they produce said Made in China and I wanted to know the deal. Here is what I found at http://www.newbalance.com/made_in_usa.html

There are 5 New Balance factories in the US that provide over 5000 jobs to Americans!

They also produce a Made in America line for men and women that sells America T shirt (totally impossible to find anywhere), socks, jackets and of course shoes!! Check them out!

What it says over and over on the website is "In 2013, 1 out of every 4 pairs of shoes we sold in the USA was made or assembled in American factories, by American workers. We’re proud to be the only major company making athletic footwear in the USA. Where domestic value is at least 70% we label our shoes Made in the USA."

I'm not exactly sure what the "where domestic value is at least 70%" means. I think some of their materials are from out of country. I will email them and share their explanation.

So, in short, buy New Balance, they are the only major sneaker company that produces in America!!

Tomorrow, more websites to find Made in America items!!
