DAY 1 - wallets, clothes and fruit - what was I thinking??

Last night as we were getting ready for today, we checked our wallets to see where they were made and discovered not here. Even my little wallet that I thought was homemade that I got in Cape Cod was an import. I ransacked my closet to find two wallets with no labels. Everything else was not from here. This is an old Esprit black wallet from the 90's that I never used. I doesn't say where it is from, but I guess I'll used it for now. My husband has abandoned his wallet for a money clip and already wants to kill me!!

I woke up to the sounds of "this is Made in China!!" as my girls ran down the hall in their 4th of July jumpers that they were wearing to camp. Game on!! I tried to explain clothes and shoes were exempt but they didn't understand. I dressed myself in undergarments from China and Thailand and my dress was from Vietnam! I felt like I was on southeast Asian vacation - I did always want to go :). My husband's undergarments were from China, his shorts from Russia and his shirt from Haiti.

We got the girls off to camp and ran errands. I went into my favorite stores to return and exchange items but did not purchase anything. I couldn't even leave the courtesy desk area for fear of wanting to but something; this my husband is happy about!! I have to buy the girls new water bottles for camp because the ones they have are you guessed it - Made in China. But it is too tempting today, maybe tomorrow.

We did venture into the new Fairway by us and this is where I hit a major road block - we'll a roadblock for me. Fairway is a great store with tons of fresh produce, meats, cheeses, etc. This was the first time we were here and it is great!! My husband and I are watching our weight and have followed a diet called Flat Belly that concentrates on healthy MUFA's (good fats). We live on Avocado's, at least 5 to 8 a week.  The avocados we found were from Mexico, I know California and Florida produce avocados but are they in season??? Needless to say we did not purchase them and I had to settle for green olives, another healthy MUFA.  This is not acceptable. I must research this because I cannot go a month without avocados!! They also had all different olive oils that looked awesome! Before I realized it I had sampled Greece and Portugal!!  So good, but I broke the rules! I quickly recovered by trying out California - it was OK :(, Greece was better.

So far Day 1 wasn't so bad. I have to start searching for websites and vendors that specialize in American made products. I cannot NOT shop for a month. I also have to buy birthday gifts for some of their friends. If I can't find anything I may have to resort to gift cards.

Until tomorrow...I'm nervous to see what awaits....

**NEW @ 8PM - went to my moms for dinner and she found avocados grown in the USA!!! I'm going tomorrow to buy a dozen!!  There is a God!!
